Botched Horary: TV

17 02 2010

This is the horary chart of the invention of television. I was thinking about how much time I´ve wasted in my life watching any old crap, in order to fill the meaningless time while munching on crisps, chocolate and indulging in “down time” or probably more to the point a sort of banal, everyday escapism.

I try not to come to this question with my mind made up. It was just something I thought about analysing and since there is no real “birthdate” for TV, then I may as well make a horary. I have loved many programs throughout my life, during my younger years I watched all the cartoons, during my teens I became interested in sci-fi, and I loved comedy shows, as well as the occasional soap. Later on I moved more into the line of documentaries and nature programs that my Dad always loved since I was small.

Cancer Rising

It is interesting that this mode of communication can provide and reflect dreams for so many countless numbers of people. And indeed we find Cancer (the people) rising in the chart, Cancer ruler of the home and of home comfort is obvious for TV considering that it is placed in our homes as a complement to any relaxing sofa, or even in front of the bed in a bedroom. Ascendant ruler Moon in the 9th then gives more of a focus, TV is an invention which involves mass communication but also being 9th house is without doubt involved in politics, morals and people´s religious or belief systems. Aries Moon is peregrine here. We might hazard that TV is primarily concerned with Aries energy, it is an aggressive medium, and it wouldn´t be far out to say this, since everyone knows that watching TV is a passive experience.

It is curious, TV is just an invention, it is just technology. So it´s not really anyone´s place to judge what it is or what it ought to be used for. But this chart gives us a very powerful 9th ruler conjunct an exalted Venus on the cusp of the 9th house of religion, travel, law, and dreams. Perhaps TV is still in its infancy, with regard to its programming, since that 9th ruler is yet to make it over the cusp of the 9th and into its rightful house.  Pisces is said also to pick up the dregs and institutionalise them, bringing in outcasts and absorbing them as with prison. TV then is without a doubt a political, and a moral instrument having power over peoples´s (9th house) dreams and their unconscious belief systems.

The 8th house

It is said that the 8th house is the house of fear. And I can confirm that there have been times when I have found TV a little unpalatable. (What I mean specifically by this is that while watching something I might have found myself questioning the right of  them, the broadcaster to put whatever images in my head without my own chosing.) Of course, there is something for everyone, and you have to just be selective. But there is no escaping in this chart, Moon is opposed by 8th ruler Saturn T-square with subliminal Pluto in cardinal signs. There is also no escaping the Sun-Neptune-Chiron conjunction in an anaretic Aquarius. Sun as ruler of the 2nd house puts values, along with 9th house beliefs, into the churning 8th, house of fear, house of death. Neptune´s conjunction denotes the grand illusion that is hidden in plain-view.

The 8th house and the Pluto dimension is something we ought to remind ourselves when thinking about the spread of TV and its acceptance into the mass consciousness which really began in the 1930´s. Fascists were the first to use TV for propaganda and for persuading people to fall in line. The most pervasive TV moment of the 21st century is not some soap scene, nor some film preview, nor is it the final of any world cup. What´s the most pervasive and seen bunch of TV images? These are images of Sodom and Gomorrah, these are images which can only describe 9th house beliefs in the house of death and destruction. Hence all of that instinctual uneasiness has firm basis in this horary. The power of TV is great, and it´s use or abuse must be guarded against, it is part of the arsenal of social cohesion which makes nations unite under one language and culture, just as totalitarian dictatorships and democracies alike found out in the 1930´s.

TV has no plan, has no political agenda of its own. This is not something I am arguing over. However, newspapers have always been 3rd house daily events ever since the printing press revolutionised the world back in the 15th century. But obviously in the chart that I have done, TV as a 9th house (mass-communication) invention has more than just the ninth as part of its reach. The large concentration of planets focused around the Sun in the 8th and the 8th ruler in direct opposition with ASC ruler emphasises the 8th house to a great degree.

11th house ruler

According to the chart then it would be fair to say that TV is an aggressive medium, the peregrine ASC ruler and detriment Sun are indicators that it´s not the noblest of inventions. However, the Jupiter Venus conjunction brings together 9th house of beliefs with the 6th of daily routine and also the 11th of hopes and wishes. TV is a great comfort clearly, with the conjunction of those benifics in Pisces. In summary, the great focus on the 8th house is symbol of TV as an invention which controls collective resources and beliefs, it acts in a transformational fashion.

People who control TV have huge power, we can´t argue with this, and power is one of the big 8th house themes, power to transform and change, power over life and power, potentially to influence people without their comprehension. What we ought to be asking is not whether TV is good or bad, that question is superfluous since the genie is out of the bottle. What we ought to be asking is, who controls the airwaves, and what their moral and political agendas are. These are questions that we ask of our politicians, but our politicians are not allowed access to our living rooms the way the media moguls are…

Mundane: The Destiny of America

9 03 2009

The nation at the centre stage of the world for the last half century, the nation that led the world into a new era, and a nation that has been the spur of growth, of world hope and optimism is marked by this chart.

chart_us_e

Ascending Sagittarius denotes a fiery ardent and questing nature, one that is not likely able to sit still for long periods of time, one that is restless and likely to move about to and fro in any direction so long as there is somewhere it can go.

Sirius (Canis Major)

America was born under two very bright and fortunate stars: Sirius, and Canopus which in 1776 were between one and two degrees before Tropical Cancer Sun in this chart.

It stirs up war and restores peace, and returning in different guise affects the world with the glance it gives it and governs with its mien. Sure proof that the star has this power are its colour and the quivering of the fire that sparkles in its face. Hardly is it inferior to the Sun, save that its abode is far away and the beams it launches from its sea-blue face are cold. In splendour it surpasses all other constellations, and no brighter star is bathed in ocean or returns to heaven from the waves. [Manilius, Astronomica, 1st century AD, book 1, p.34-37]

Sirius is associated with a vast mythology and esoteric power, so it´s no surprise then that a nation born both with its Ascendant ruler Exalted and conjunct this star on one side and its Sun, its heart conjunct on the other side should shine like the bright star among all nations.

When the Dogstar rises over the rim of the sea, which at its birth not even the flood of Ocean can quench, it will fashion unbridled spirits and impetuous hearts; it will bestow on its sons billows of anger, and draw upon them the hatred and fear of the whole populace. [Manilius, Astronomica, 1st century AD]

Conflict and America´s Heart

The conflict in America is easily understood by observing ruler of 2nd and third house Saturn in Exaltation and angular in close square with ruler of the 9th house Sun in the 8th with Ascendant Ruler Jupiter. The signification is of values and wealth (2nd rulership) being placed above and in direct conflict with the spiritual heart (9th rulership Sun). 8th house Sun denotes the fidelity and Faith of America is often put into a state of crisis and death.

Ascendant ruler Jupiter is also ruler of house 4. This means that America identifies with home, with roots and with home comforts. Also that the “fathers” are part of their being and identity. The founding fathers, the idea that each is descended from a certain lineage, whether this be Irish, English, African, Latin, Asian, Italian, Jewish, the surname seems to be all important.

The second conflict of America is 3rd house finite knowledge ruler Saturn in direct conflict with the heart of America and its soul, 9th ruler Sun in crisis in the 8th, with Ascendant Ruler Jupiter. Saturn appears to be the stronger of these two and in air there is a mental calculation and connection with the second house of resources and money.

The Destiny of America

The United States of America came into the world as a bunch of colonial rebellious Aquarian traders. South node in house 2 denotes that America was born as a financially independent state with an income, and that in Aquarius it was born as an act of rebellion, with certain “high ideals” swirling about on those rebels´minds.

The destiny of America is Imperial. There is no question of this with North Node in Leo, and indeed when there has been forward momentum and motion, when America has been fulfilling its destiny in the past it has been acquiring new territories, and achieving domination of the world through all techniques that Empires use; but primarily as a diplomatic and economic power with Saturn the most essentially dignified planet in the Tropical sign of diplomacy. 8th house North Node also indicates that destiny will be fulfilled through crisis and transformation, often through death and legacy.

Mars is in fact the most accidentally dignified planet and has terms avoiding peregrination. So although America has benefited most from other areas, it without a doubt is the Hawk side of this country that has had the biggest growth and opportunity. Mars as ruler of the 5th house shows an ego which is based upon sexual drive, sexual drive, physical power, and in more mundane thought, military power, which is the primary Martial signifier. Ruling the 12th house means that it will be through violent, spontaneous actions that it will undermine itself.

America´s place in the world is not secure. MC ruler Mercury is not only placed in 8th house of death and crisis, but is so damaged by essential and accidental debility, that it may be the greatest challenge to keep a good reputation. Mercury also rules over the Descendant so America´s allies are likely to be weak, though the same should be said of opponents.

Pluto

In whichever chart you use, Pluto is more closely ingrained in America than is visible. This little planet placed in tropical Capricorn is in fact contra-parallel to both America´s Jupiter, Sun, Venus, and Mars. Whatever the true meaning of the planet Pluto is, America a nation which has not only transformed, but has acted to transform others, whether they liked it or not, is truly tied in with the destiny of the nation.

Pluto in Scorpio

2 10 2008

The generation that is born with this placement is born into corruption. This generation however is present on this Earth at this point in time and will wield power. These are the people who bring renewal to humanity and purge it of its ills, of its inherent badness. Pluto in Scorpio is said to be the purest form of Pluto’s manifestation, it is said to be coloured by no tainted glass and no other planetary ray that disturbs its pure expression.

Pluto sees falseness in everything, anything that is remotely artificial will be exposed for itself. Pluto in Scorpio has opposite in the Zodiac Venus in Taurus. Pluto’s quest is to see through the flesh which Venus in Taurus represents. Venus’s falseness is its attachment to material life, to things that it can touch, see and sense, and it becomes so embroiled in its own beauty and ideas of its own attractiveness that it becomes corrupt and proud like Leo. Pluto is there to make Venus see that love consists of more than physical pleasure.

Venus is the planet that is most associated with love, and this is true, Venus has the ability to give and to receive also. But what Venus misses out on is that love can and in fact must not be dependant on physical existence. Venus in the 2nd house is so used to getting what she wants that she becomes blind as to what others needs might be. Pluto in Scorpio is aware that there is a collective humanity and just as pride is sacrificed in Aquarius, in Scorpio Pluto sacrifices physical pleasure and ego.

The thing with Pluto is that it knows what is real. When you are not seeing human beings the way you ought to and interacting the way you ought to, when you do not value life the way it ought to be valued, Pluto will bring you down from your pedestal. Pluto will only bring down because you have elevated yourself. If you are humble already and Pluto makes his transit, not that much should happen, just a reminder and a renewal of that truth of love and emotional existence which is the basis of us all.

Pluto is the higher truth, the deeper meaning, it can bring out your own hatred and fear, but these essentially belong to you and not Pluto. Pluto is here to make you see that life is based on love and acceptance and that ego, and vanity are things which get in the way of seeing that truth.

The more your ego is out of line with the reality and truth of love and equality in the face of Nature, then the more suffering is waiting for you, because Pluto doesn’t know how else to bring down that ego, without threatening its death.
