Jupiter has much to do with Capitalism and banking. Democratic capitalism is a system of expansion of wealth and of opportunity which are keywords for Jupiter. Additionally the idea of capitalism is based entirely on risk, on taking chances and making projections of profit in the future. It goes without saying then that the way the West is structured is largely ruled by jupiter. This is evident in the chart of the USA, the leader of the democratic and venture capitalist system; a country with has Sun conjunct an exalted Jupiter. the prognostication for expansion during this period then is weak.
In the light of these observations, a Gemini Jupiter is therefore not helpful for the expansive, and gambling system of government. One may make the observation that the great depression began during a Jupiter in Gemini year. Whatever the actual cause, in Gemini the planet of gambling runs out of luck. Or rather the luck that Jupiter signifies in any sign goes into words and into intellectual efforts. A number of famous writers have this placement.
It seems that this placement is favourable for making distinctions based on detailed observations. The suffering here arises though an alienation with the higher consciousness, or God. Humanity may be sacrificed, expansion is sacrificed and the purpose of life becomes utilitarian. If Jupiter in Sagittarius has faith in humanity, faith that a higher power is at work in the human race, then in Gemini, humanity is seen as something of an animal which can be chopped up.
Writers such as Charles Dickens, Aldous Huxley and Arthur Conan Dolye have Jupiter in Gemini, as well as Schopenhauer. The writers with this placement all demonstrate an inherent lack of faith in man as a morally superior being, rather denegrating him to the level of an animal. Dickens although counted one of the greatest writers, observed humanity in gritty “realistic” terms, where life was truly a miserable struggle for survival. All Dickens’ characters come to discover a harsh Darwinian reality underpinning life, and many of them are “self-made”, often at price of the death of those around them. No God exists in these stories, just man and the structures which he creates. Naturally these novels were novels about social problems, and observed people as human animals. Huxley likewise came to great disappointment with humanity, and his novels demonstrate a disillusion with human society, viewing the details of life without any real knowledge of the divinity within the human experience. Brave New World although a satire still depicts a world, a humanity which has been stripped of all divine experience and reduced to its physical mechanistic existence. Huxley’s characters suffer, like Dickens’ without god, and without faith that things could ever improve. Their basic observations were that human existence was just a mechanism, and that all unhappiness in our meagre existence could possibly be fixed using physical means such as organising humanity differently.
Naturally when speaking about Jupiter faith becomes the most important thing. It signifies faith not just in God, but in man too and in the benevolence of the universe at large. Jupiter is concerned with morality, which goes far beyond small details of what the lower mind observes and sees. Wilkins Micawber says that “I have no doubt I shall, please Heaven, begin to be more beforehand with the world, and to live in a perfectly new manner, if -if, in short, anything turns up. – (Chapter 11 David Copperfield)” For Micawber of course, nothing does turn up most of the time and in fact his creditors turn up and take him to prison. Faith doesn’t work in Gemini. You need to make sense of the immediate world around you, balance the books and live in peace with other people around, not to owe anything and not to be in debt.
Opportunities for this placement are to be able to observe. To observe and to make distinctions between different categories, to work with logic, and to observe mechanism in all its forms. The dangers with this are that too much emphasis on observation and on distinction can lead to intolerance or even of sacrficing humanity.
